(Web Desk) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially expressed his gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for accepting Pakistan’s request to extend the ceasefire with Iran. In a statement shared on Wednesday, the Prime Minister, speaking for himself and Field Marshal Asim Munir, thanked the U.S. President for the “gracious acceptance” of their diplomatic plea, which has temporarily averted a return to active conflict.
The Prime Minister voiced strong optimism that this extension will provide the necessary space for both the United States and Iran to finalize a comprehensive “Peace Deal.” He noted that Pakistan is fully committed to facilitating the upcoming second round of negotiations in Islamabad, aiming for a permanent resolution to the crisis. Sharif emphasized that a negotiated settlement is the only path toward long-term stability and urged all parties involved to strictly uphold the terms of the truce.
The extension comes at a critical juncture, as President Trump noted that the move was made specifically to allow Iranian leadership—whom he described as currently “fractured”—time to present a unified proposal. While the military blockade of the Strait of Hormuz remains in effect, the suspension of planned strikes has been widely viewed as a significant diplomatic achievement for Pakistan’s leadership. The international community is now closely watching the developments in Islamabad, where high-level diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes.
