Rescuers in the southern Philippines continued search and recovery operations on Friday after a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake killed at least 55 people.
The quake struck off the coast of Mindanao earlier this week, triggering landslides, collapsing buildings, and causing tsunami warnings across the region. Authorities say 31 people remain missing.
Emergency teams are facing difficult conditions, with heavy rain and ongoing aftershocks slowing recovery work. Roads in some areas have been cleared, but helicopters are still delivering food and water to isolated communities.
Officials said hopes of finding survivors are fading as days pass since the disaster. Rescue efforts are now largely focused on recovering bodies.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited affected areas and pledged government support for rebuilding damaged infrastructure.
