LAHORE (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially handed a one-year suspension to Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka, barring him from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to a breach of his professional agreement. The disciplinary action comes after Shanaka, who was drafted by the Lahore Qalandars for the current PSL 11 season, withdrew from the competition despite his contractual commitments.
Following this ruling, the former Sri Lankan captain will be ineligible for selection in the PSL 12 edition next year. The PCB emphasized that this strict measure was necessary to uphold the league’s regulations and maintain its global reputation for professionalism. In a formal statement, the board reiterated that preserving the credibility and operational standards of the PSL remains a primary objective.
In a personal response to the ban, Shanaka expressed sincere regret for his departure and issued an apology to the Pakistani public, cricket fans, and the administrative community. He acknowledged the prestige associated with the tournament and expressed particular remorse toward the Lahore Qalandars’ fanbase for the disappointment caused by his absence.
Clarifying the circumstances of his exit, Shanaka stated that he had no intention of participating in any rival leagues at the time of his withdrawal. He concluded by expressing his deep respect for the hospitality he has received in Pakistan over the years, voicing his hope to eventually return to the PSL and rebuild the trust of the fans with a renewed sense of commitment.
