ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Sunday said that Pakistan’s position on the Pahalgam incident had been validated internationally, a year after what he described as a “false flag operation.”
Speaking on the anniversary, Tarar said developments over the past year had weakened India’s narrative and reinforced Pakistan’s stance, raising questions globally about New Delhi’s claims.
He referred to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Kakul last year, where the premier rejected allegations linking Pakistan to the attack and called for a neutral investigation.
The incident in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), claimed 26 lives and was followed by heightened tensions between the two countries. India had accused Pakistan of involvement, a claim Islamabad denied.
Tarar said Pakistan had consistently condemned terrorism and expressed sympathy with the victims, while urging an end to what he termed a pattern of “baseless accusations.”
He added that Pakistan’s response, including diplomatic outreach and its official stance presented at forums such as the National Security Committee, helped shape international opinion.
The minister maintained that Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism and promoting regional peace had been recognised globally, contrasting it with what he described as India’s inconsistent approach.
He also expressed confidence in the country’s defence capabilities, stating that Pakistan remains prepared to respond to any aggression.
Tarar concluded that the narrative established by Pakistan over the past year had strengthened its international standing and contributed to broader diplomatic engagement.
