Pakistan will introduce a strict testing and certification system for electric vehicle (EV) batteries after concerns over the use of substandard components by some manufacturers.
The issue was raised in a National Coordination and Management Council (NCMC) meeting, where officials warned that poor-quality batteries could pose safety risks and damage confidence in the EV sector.
The council directed relevant agencies to set up a system for certification, inspections, and enforcement to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Officials said the move is important as demand for electric vehicles grows, driven by high fuel prices and the shift toward cleaner transport.
The meeting also reviewed issues in the oil sector, where regulators flagged non-compliance by some oil marketing companies and called for stronger enforcement rules.
