Pakistan, China sign MoUs to enhance cooperation in tea sector, agriculture technology and desalination

Pakistan and China on Monday signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation in desalination, agricultural technology, and the tea industry.

The agreements were signed during President Asif Ali Zardari’s five-day official visit to China, where he witnessed the exchange of MoUs between Pakistani and Chinese organisations.

The first MoU was signed between the Government of Sindh and Lucion Environmental Technology Group for collaboration on a seawater desalination project in Karachi, aimed at improving the city’s water supply. The agreement was signed by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Yuhui, Secretary of the Party Branch and Chairman of the Chinese firm.

The second MoU focuses on agricultural technology cooperation between the Government of Sindh and Long Ping Hi-tech Information Company. It was signed by Sharjeel Inam Memon and Chen Zhixin, Chairman of Longping High-Tech Information Company.

The third MoU pertains to the tea sector and was signed between MESKAY & FEMTEE Trading Company, Hunan Tea Group, and Jiaolong International Technology (Hainan). The agreement aims to promote cooperation across the tea value chain and strengthen economic, trade, and people-to-people ties between the two countries. It was signed by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and Chinese representatives Zhou Chongwang and Hao Jiaolong.

Senior officials, including Sindh Chief Secretary, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, Ali Hassan Barohi, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi, were also present on the occasion.

President Zardari’s visit is focused on enhancing economic and trade relations, with special emphasis on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and industrial cooperation.

Earlier, he also visited SANY Heavy Industry in Hunan province, where discussions were held on technology transfer, industrial cooperation, and investment opportunities between the two countries.
