Minister rejects claims proposed 28th Amendment would reverse 18th Amendment

A federal minister has rejected the impression that a possible 28th Constitutional Amendment would undo or weaken the 18th Amendment.

Speaking on the issue, the minister said there was no intention to roll back provincial autonomy or alter the core framework established under the 18th Amendment.

He clarified that any proposed constitutional changes would be aimed at improving governance and administrative efficiency rather than reversing earlier reforms.

The 18th Amendment, passed in 2010, significantly increased provincial powers and remains a major constitutional development in Pakistan’s political system.

The minister’s remarks came amid speculation and debate regarding potential constitutional amendments under consideration by the government.
