Is Outlook experiencing an outage? Microsoft users report email disruptions — here’s what we know

Microsoft Outlook faced a widespread outage early Monday, causing inconvenience for hundreds of users and turning the start of the week into a frustrating experience.

According to internet monitoring platform Downdetector, reports of issues surged shortly before 10am on April 27, 2026. More than 800 users in the UK and over 400 in the United States reported problems with the email service.

Data indicates that around 64% of the reported issues were related to login difficulties, with users unable to access their accounts.

Responding to the disruption, Microsoft said in a post on X (formerly Twitter), “We’re investigating an issue where users may be experiencing intermittent issues accessing Outlook.”

The company also directed users to its official status page for real-time updates on the situation.

Initial technical assessments suggest the issue may be linked to communication problems between Microsoft servers and third-party email clients.

Before the company confirmed a broader system issue, some users had feared potential security breaches due to authentication-related errors.
