Blaze suspected to have started in ground-floor restaurant; rescue operations continue in south Delhi

At least 21 people were killed after a fire broke out at a hotel in Malviya Nagar in south Delhi on Wednesday morning, police said.
Over 40 people were rescued from the multi-storey building and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, according to officials.
The fire reportedly started around 8:50am local time, with initial reports suggesting it may have originated from a ground-floor restaurant.
Television footage showed thick smoke and flames engulfing parts of the building, with some residents seen jumping from upper floors to escape.
Local official Jitendra Kumar said the exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the incident “tragic” and expressed condolences to the victims’ families.
