Emilia Clarke has revealed a surprising ambition that is exciting theatre fans: a return to Broadway in a leading musical role.

Speaking at the Tribeca Film Festival during the premiere of her new sci-fi romance Next Life, Clarke said she would “absolutely love” to perform on Broadway.

She shared that her dream role is in the classic musical Sweet Charity, adding that she would also be interested in other productions inspired by legendary choreographer Bob Fosse.

The musical, originally created in 1966, follows Charity Hope Valentine and has been performed by several acclaimed stage and screen actresses over the years.

Clarke, best known for playing Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, has previously performed on Broadway but described her 2013 debut in Breakfast at Tiffany’s as a difficult experience early in her career.

She said she felt unprepared at the time but now appears more confident about returning to the stage.

In her latest film Next Life, Clarke also showcases her singing abilities, playing a character navigating love stories across parallel universes.

Fans have since reacted with excitement to the idea of her returning to musical theatre, with many calling for her Broadway debut to become a reality.
