The founder of India’s satirical “Cockroach People’s Party” said he is returning to New Delhi from the United States to lead a planned street protest, escalating a viral online campaign into real-world action.
The movement’s creator, Abhijeet Dipke, announced on social media that he was “leaving [his] fate in the hands of the Constitution” as he travelled back to India.
Dipke launched the parody group, also known as the “Cockroach Janta Party,” last month as a satirical response to mainstream politics. The online movement has since gained millions of followers across social media platforms.
The campaign calls for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in national examinations. Dipke has said he will formally request police permission for a peaceful protest in New Delhi on Saturday.
He has also urged supporters not to gather at the airport upon his arrival, warning that large crowds could disrupt public order and security arrangements.
The satirical movement has grown rapidly online, positioning itself as a “youth-led political front,” and has attracted attention for its sharp criticism of India’s political establishment.
Despite restrictions on some of its social media accounts, the movement’s Instagram presence continues to draw large engagement, significantly surpassing several mainstream political parties in follower count.
Authorities have not yet commented on the planned protest.
