Anthropic has disabled its most advanced AI models after receiving a US government order restricting access over security concerns.
The company said it was instructed to block Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all foreign nationals, but the order effectively required shutting them down for all users worldwide.
US officials said the decision was linked to fears that the models could be bypassed or “jailbroken” and misused for cyberattacks.
Anthropic said it was not given detailed evidence and disagreed with the move, calling it based on a narrow and unverified risk.
The company said access to its other AI models has not been affected.
The order is part of wider US efforts to tighten control over advanced AI tools and limit access by foreign actors.
Anthropic said it is working with regulators to resolve the issue and restore access as soon as possible.
Amazon Web Services confirmed it is enforcing the restrictions across its infrastructure.
