A magnitude 5.4 earthquake shook Islamabad and parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on sending tremors across a wide region.
According to initial reports, the earthquake was felt in at least 15 districts stretching from Peshawar to Multan. The quake’s depth was recorded at approximately 215 kilometers, which experts say typically reduces surface-level damage despite wide-reaching tremors.
Residents in several cities reported feeling strong shaking, prompting brief panic as people moved outdoors. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant structural damage.
Authorities and monitoring agencies are continuing to assess the situation and have urged the public to remain alert for possible aftershocks.
Seismologists note that deep-focus earthquakes in the region are not uncommon due to tectonic activity along the Himalayan and surrounding fault systems.
