The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has announced that the Muharram moon was not sighted in Pakistan.

Committee Chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad made the announcement after a meeting in Lahore.

As a result, the first day of Muharram will fall on June 17, while Ashura (Muharram 10) will be observed on June 26.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department had predicted that moon sighting was unlikely due to insufficient time between the moon’s birth and sunset.

Muharram is one of Islam’s four sacred months. Ashura marks the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.

Across Pakistan, devotees observe the month through processions, majalis, and religious gatherings.
