Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the United States and Iran have reached a peace agreement after intensive diplomatic efforts.
Both sides agreed to immediately and permanently end military operations, including in Lebanon. The agreement will be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19.
Shehbaz thanked Qatar for its mediation role and praised Saudi Arabia and Turkiye for supporting the peace process.
US President Donald Trump confirmed the deal, calling it a major step toward regional peace and security.
Trump also announced that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen on Friday, allowing global oil shipments to resume. The US will end its blockade of Iranian ports as part of the agreement.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said further negotiations will continue during a 60-day ceasefire period. Future talks will focus on sanctions relief and Iran’s nuclear programme.
Qatar welcomed the breakthrough and thanked Pakistan for helping create conditions that made the agreement possible.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also welcomed the deal, stressing the importance of restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The agreement comes after months of conflict that caused heavy casualties and disrupted global energy supplies.
