The United States launched their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in style, defeating Paraguay 4-1 in Los Angeles on Friday.

In front of a sold-out crowd of more than 70,000 fans, the hosts raced into an early lead through a Paraguay own goal before taking complete control of the match.

Folarin Balogun starred with two goals, while an own goal and a late strike from Gio Reyna completed the scoring. Paraguay’s only goal came from substitute Mauricio in the second half.

The US led 3-0 at halftime after an impressive display of attacking football. Balogun scored twice, including a brilliant curled finish just before the break.

Christian Pulisic played a key role in the opening half but was substituted at halftime, raising concerns over his fitness. Despite his absence, the Americans comfortably maintained their advantage.

Reyna sealed the victory in stoppage time with a superb outside-of-the-foot finish, capping a dominant performance by the co-hosts.

The result gives the United States an excellent start in Group D, which also includes Australia and Türkiye, and boosts their chances of reaching the knockout stage.

The match was preceded by a star-studded opening ceremony featuring singer Katy Perry, while celebrities including Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Paris Hilton were among the spectators.
