Celebrities and activists have strongly condemned the acid attack on Dr Mahnoor, a postgraduate doctor who was critically injured while on duty at a hospital in Quetta.

The attack occurred inside the surgical ward of Civil Sandeman Hospital. Authorities said the suspect later died in a police encounter after fleeing the scene.

The incident sparked nationwide outrage, with several public figures calling for justice and improved security for women and medical professionals.

Actress Mahira Khan described the attack as “barbaric” and urged both men and women to speak out against violence. She expressed anger that a doctor working to save lives was attacked inside a hospital.

Actor Yasir Hussain said the attack showed that violence against women is rooted in harmful mindsets, not in how women dress or behave.

Model and entrepreneur Saheefa Jabbar Khattak said misogyny and the policing of women contribute to a culture that enables violence. She stressed that such attacks are part of broader societal problems.

Actress Mishi Khan questioned hospital security and criticised the handling of the suspect, while actress Sajal Aly called the attack a result of misogyny and a fragile male ego.

Dr Mahnoor’s colleague, Dr Usama Khan, shared an emotional message describing the pain of seeing a fellow doctor become the victim of such brutality. He also highlighted the lack of protection available to healthcare workers.

The attack has renewed calls for stronger workplace security, tougher action against gender-based violence, and better protection for women across Pakistan.
