The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has announced July 27, 2026, as the date for general elections to the Legislative Assembly. Polling will take place across all constituencies from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Candidates can submit nomination papers between June 9 and June 19, while scrutiny is scheduled for June 20. Appeals against nomination decisions may be filed from June 21 to June 24, with final rulings expected by June 29. Candidates can withdraw their papers until June 30, and election symbols will be allotted on July 2.
Meanwhile, the AJK Legislative Assembly has passed a resolution retaining 12 seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees. The resolution described refugee representation as a constitutional and historical feature and said any electoral reforms should be handled through the assembly after consultations with political parties, legal bodies, civil society and constitutional experts.
