England cricket team begin their home Test season against New Zealand cricket team at Lord’s, aiming to recover from a heavy Ashes defeat in Australia earlier this year.

England were beaten 4-1 in the Ashes series, raising fresh questions about their aggressive “Bazball” approach under head coach Brendon McCullum. While the style has produced thrilling wins, it has struggled in tougher series against Australia and India.

McCullum says the team must evolve and improve its decision-making under pressure. He stressed the need for better game management, especially in closing out matches and adapting tactically when behind.

England have made changes to their squad, including dropping Zak Crawley and handing a debut to Emilio Gay. Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir is also expected to return, while fast bowler Jofra Archer remains unavailable due to franchise commitments.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson expects a strong contest, saying his side is ready for another tough battle at Lord’s. The first Test marks the 150th match at the historic ground, with both teams combining experience and young talent as they look to start the series strongly.
