According to an official notification, the use of drones in open areas will remain completely prohibited throughout Punjab. Authorities said the decision was taken in view of credible reports and prevailing circumstances indicating that the increasing and unregulated use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) poses potential risks to public safety, law and order, and the security of public and private property.
The restriction has been imposed under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code by the Secretary of the Punjab Home Department.
Officials stated that unrestricted drone activity could interfere with official operations, create security challenges, and disturb public peace. Under the latest order, all outdoor drone operations will remain banned across the province for the next 30 days unless the restriction is withdrawn earlier.
However, the ban does not apply to intelligence agencies and law enforcement institutions. The government has also allowed the limited use of small drones at indoor venues such as halls and marquees during private functions and events.
The notification further states that event organizers will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of drones at such venues.
