Reports from CBS and Axios stated that a final decision has not yet been made, even as tensions continue to rise over ongoing diplomatic negotiations involving Iran’s nuclear and regional policies.
The developments come shortly after US President Donald Trump announced he would cancel a planned weekend trip to his New Jersey golf resort and remain in Washington, D.C., citing “government circumstances” and national priorities. He also said it was important for him to stay at the White House during what he described as a critical period.
According to Axios, Trump has recently become increasingly frustrated with the pace of negotiations with Iran, with sources suggesting his stance may have shifted from diplomacy toward considering military action. CBS similarly reported that US military and intelligence personnel had begun cancelling holiday plans in anticipation of possible developments.
The reports also said that US officials have not confirmed any final decision, and the White House declined to comment when approached by AFP.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly told CBS that the president has warned of consequences if Iran does not reach an agreement.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are said to be continuing. Reports suggest that Pakistan is playing a mediating role between Washington and Tehran, with senior Pakistani officials reportedly engaging in talks in Iran as part of broader efforts to reduce tensions.
Despite speculation, officials emphasize that discussions remain ongoing and no military action has been officially authorized at this stage.
