6.0-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Hawaii, No Tsunami Threat Reported

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 22.4 kilometres and was centered about 12 kilometres south of Honaunau-Napoopoo on Hawaii’s main island. The tremor struck at approximately 9:46 pm local time (0746 GMT Saturday).

The National Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that the earthquake did not pose any tsunami threat.

Authorities did not immediately report any casualties or major damage following the quake.

Although Hawaii lies in the middle of a massive tectonic plate, the island chain remains one of the world’s most geologically active regions due to volcanic activity.

The state is home to several active volcanoes, including Kilauea, known for its frequent eruptions that attract tourists from around the world. Hawaii also contains Mauna Loa, recognized as the largest volcano on Earth.
