The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of a severe heatwave across the country from May 25 to 31, coinciding with Eidul Azha celebrations. The festival falls on May 27, and the federal government has announced a three-day holiday from May 26 to 28.

Temperatures are expected to soar well above normal, reaching 50°C in southern and central districts, including Sukkur, Larkana, Multan, and Bahawalpur. Major cities such as Islamabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar may see 42–45°C, while northern and hilly areas, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Neelum Valley, could experience 38–40°C. Karachi is forecasted to remain very hot, with temperatures between 35–38°C.

The PMD has urged the public—especially women, children, and the elderly—to stay hydrated, limit sun exposure, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Farmers are advised to protect crops and livestock, while all citizens should use water and electricity wisely.
