Olivia Rodrigo has revealed the story behind her surprise appearance during Addison Rae’s Coachella set, where she also performed her latest single Drop Dead live for the first time.
The 23-year-old pop star said the moment was her own idea and came from a casual conversation between the two friends.
“I think… we’re friends, you know? We text all the time,” Rodrigo explained. “And then I messaged her like, ‘Maybe I could show up at Coachella. I feel like this song is so fun, so free and totally your vibe.’”
Her comments triggered mixed reactions online, with some fans praising the collaboration while others questioned the decision to join Rae’s performance.
On social media platform X, one user wrote, “She came to outsing Addison and she delivered,” while another said, “Well it’s not Addison’s vibe at all but it was cute.” Others called the moment “sistersss,” while some critics argued it may have overshadowed Rae’s set.
Despite the debate, the surprise appearance quickly went viral as the two artists performed Rae’s track Headphones On before Rodrigo debuted her new release on stage, drawing widespread attention across social media.
