The Indus River has shifted by around 4.5 kilometres near Larkana, raising concerns over the safety of nearby flood protection infrastructure, according to SUPARCO.
The significant change in the river’s course could place additional pressure on the flood bund and increase the risk of flooding in surrounding areas if water levels rise.
Officials and experts are monitoring the river’s movement as the threat poses potential risks to homes, farmland, infrastructure and economic activity in the region.
With billions of rupees in assets potentially exposed, authorities are expected to strengthen monitoring and take preventive measures to protect vulnerable areas from possible flooding.
