FIFA has denied reports claiming that president Gianni Infantino sought support from US President Donald Trump after a proposed World Cup-related investment plan reportedly failed to win backing.
In a statement, FIFA said Infantino has not spoken with Trump or anyone in his administration in recent days, calling the report inaccurate.
The claims were linked to a controversial proposal involving the sale of a stake connected to World Cup commercial rights, a plan that has faced criticism from some football officials concerned about the role of outside investors in the tournament.
The issue has drawn extra attention because Infantino has already confirmed that he will seek a fourth term as FIFA president, making the organisation’s commercial strategy a key topic of debate ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
FIFA did not comment on the future of the investment proposal itself, but it stressed that reports suggesting Infantino had reached out to the White House were false.
