Concerns are growing among PlayStation owners after reports that GTA 6 may be subject to regional restrictions linked to Japanese payment regulations, prompting questions about how the game could be purchased and accessed across different account regions.
The issue is reportedly connected to Japan’s Payment Services Act, which is overseen by the Financial Services Agency of Japan (JFSA). The law imposes strict rules on digital payments, prepaid balances and certain online transaction systems used by gaming platforms.
According to the reports, the restriction does not necessarily mean that GTA 6 will be banned in Japan, but it could affect how the game is sold, redeemed or transferred between PlayStation accounts registered in different regions.
Players are particularly concerned that users who rely on foreign PlayStation Store accounts, imported gift cards or cross-region purchases could face limitations if Sony applies stricter compliance measures to meet Japanese regulatory requirements.
Neither Sony Interactive Entertainment nor Rockstar Games has issued an official statement confirming any specific GTA 6 regional restrictions, and many of the circulating claims remain unverified.
