Iran announced that the United States has lifted its two-month naval blockade of Iranian ports ahead of a peace agreement signing in Switzerland on Friday.

Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi said the move was a major confidence-building step and a key Iranian demand during negotiations.

Under the agreement, Washington and Tehran will begin a 60-day negotiation process aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement.

The talks will focus on Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief and broader regional security issues.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the most difficult issues remain unresolved and will be addressed during the next phase of discussions.

The development eased concerns in energy markets, with oil prices falling as expectations grew that shipping through the Strait of Hormuz would fully resume.

Despite diplomatic progress, tensions remain high. Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed four people, according to Lebanese authorities.

Iran warned of a strong response if attacks continue and said any ongoing Israeli military presence in Lebanon would violate the emerging agreement.

Both sides have described Friday’s signing as an important first step toward a broader and lasting peace deal.
