Sydney Sweeney has spoken about her character Cassie’s controversial storyline in the upcoming season of Euphoria, saying she fully embraced the role despite its provocative nature.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Sweeney explained that Cassie’s decision to join OnlyFans after marrying Nate felt consistent with the character’s long-standing desire for love and validation.
According to Sweeney, Cassie has always sought approval from others and struggles with self-worth. She believes the character was drawn less to the platform itself and more to the attention and recognition it provided.
The actress also revealed that she discussed the storyline in detail with Sam Levinson before filming. She said Levinson shared the scripts and later called to ensure she was comfortable with the material.
Sweeney said she viewed the storyline through the lens of acting rather than personal belief. While she does not agree with all of Cassie’s choices, she stressed that her responsibility is to portray the character honestly and bring the creator’s vision to life.
She added that playing Cassie requires exploring the character’s most vulnerable and extreme emotions, regardless of whether she personally relates to those decisions.
The actress also addressed the common assumption that actors resemble the characters they portray. Sweeney said many people do not know who she is in real life and argued that the appeal of acting lies in becoming completely different people.
The third season of Euphoria is expected to further explore Cassie’s complicated relationships and emotional struggles, continuing one of the show’s most talked-about character arcs.
