Elon Musk’s SpaceX has agreed to acquire AI startup Anysphere, the company behind coding assistant Cursor, in a $60 billion all-stock deal.
Anysphere was co-founded by Pakistani-born Sualeh Asif and has become one of the fastest-growing AI software companies.
The acquisition will expand SpaceX’s presence in the fast-growing market for AI coding tools and enterprise AI services.
Cursor has gained popularity among developers by using artificial intelligence to automate coding tasks and improve productivity.
SpaceX said the deal will help strengthen its AI ecosystem, including Grok and other coding-focused products.
The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026 and will be funded entirely through stock.
Following the announcement, SpaceX shares rose sharply, putting the company on track to become one of the world’s most valuable firms.
Industry analysts said the deal gives SpaceX access to advanced AI technology, developer data and a rapidly growing customer base.
The acquisition marks another major step in SpaceX’s efforts to expand beyond space technology and become a leading force in artificial intelligence.
