LONDON: A resurfaced personal letter written by King Charles III has offered a rare glimpse into his private grief after the death of Princess Diana.

The handwritten note, dated December 8, 1997, was written a few months after Diana died in a car crash in Paris at the age of 36.

At the time, Charles was the Prince of Wales. In the letter, he reportedly described feelings of “unbearable emptiness” while offering condolences to a friend.

The letter was written on Highgrove House stationery and later surfaced at auction, drawing renewed attention decades after it was first penned.

Royal sources say the note reveals a more personal and unguarded side of Charles during a period of intense public mourning.

They add that while public focus was on the constitutional response to Diana’s death, the letter highlights the private grief within the royal family.

Diana, the mother of Princes William and Harry, remained a central figure in Charles’ life despite their separation before her death.
