New Delhi objects to US attacks on ships amid Strait of Hormuz tensions, says at least three Indian nationals were killed.

India has summoned a US diplomat in New Delhi for the second time in a week to protest recent attacks on vessels off the coast of Oman.According to official sources, Charge d’Affaires Jason Meeks was called to the Ministry of External Affairs to register India’s objection.The protest relates to reported US strikes on commercial vessels in waters near the Strait of Hormuz.Indian authorities say at least three Indian nationals were killed in the incident involving ships targeted by US forces.
Officials said the vessels were foreign-flagged but carried Indian seafarers onboard.This marks the second time in a week that India has raised the issue with the US diplomatic mission.On Wednesday, New Delhi had also summoned Meeks over similar concerns.
An Indian External Affairs Ministry official said the US Navy targeted three vessels off Oman’s coast.The US Central Command stated that it disabled vessels it described as involved in transporting Iranian oil.CENTCOM said it had taken action against multiple non-compliant ships while allowing others to pass if they complied with regulations.
It also said some vessels carrying humanitarian support were permitted to continue their routes.Since mid-April, US forces have reportedly increased maritime enforcement operations in the region.Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz remain high amid ongoing conflict-related disruptions in the area.India has continued to press for clarity and accountability following the deaths of its nationals at sea.
