Los Angeles is marking the 100th birth anniversary of Marilyn Monroe with a series of events celebrating her life, career and lasting impact on popular culture.

Born on June 1, 1926, Monroe rose from a difficult childhood to become one of Hollywood’s most iconic stars, known for films such as The Seven Year Itch, Niagara and The Misfits.

The centenary celebrations began at TCL Chinese Theatre with a special tribute event featuring birthday celebrations and commemorative displays.

Meanwhile, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has launched a major exhibition, “Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon,” showcasing memorabilia from her life and career. The exhibition will run until February 2027.

The museum is also hosting screenings of several Monroe classics throughout the month, while a special auction featuring around 200 items linked to the star is scheduled later this week.

More than six decades after her death in 1962, Monroe remains one of the most influential figures in film, fashion and entertainment history.
