One Dead After Strong Earthquake Hits China


Magnitude 6.3 quake strikes Qinghai province, triggering aftershocks and rescue efforts.

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck northwestern China’s Qinghai province on Tuesday, killing one person and injuring four others.

The quake hit Haixi prefecture at a depth of 10 kilometers at 5:06 p.m. local time.

More than 320 rescue workers were deployed to search for survivors and assess damage in the affected area.

Authorities evacuated workers from nearby coal mines and launched emergency response operations.

The earthquake was followed by more than a dozen aftershocks, including one measuring magnitude 4.9.

Initial inspections found transport, communication, water and power services operating normally near the epicentre.

Relief supplies, including tents, beds and blankets, were sent to affected communities. Food and drinking water were also distributed to residents.
