Scotland claimed their first World Cup victory since 1990 with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Haiti in Boston.

John McGinn scored the decisive goal in the 28th minute after a save from Haiti goalkeeper Johny Placide fell kindly into his path.

Steve Clarke’s side dominated much of the match and also struck the post through Scott McTominay.

Haiti threatened late on but failed to find an equaliser as Scotland’s defence held firm.

The victory moves Scotland to the top of Group C ahead of Brazil and Morocco, who played out a 1-1 draw.

The result boosts Scotland’s hopes of reaching the World Cup knockout stage for the first time in their history.

Scotland next face Morocco, while Haiti will take on five-time champions Brazil.
