Brazil were held to a 1–1 draw by Morocco in their Group C opener in East Rutherford.
Ismael Saibari gave Morocco the lead in the 21st minute. He finished with a chipped effort after a through ball from Brahim Díaz.
Vinícius Júnior equalised 11 minutes later. He cut inside from the left and struck a powerful shot into the far corner.
Brazil improved after the equaliser but struggled to control the match. Morocco remained dangerous on the counterattack.
Yassine Bounou made several key saves to keep Morocco level. Brazil missed chances through Lucas Paquetá and Raphinha.
Morocco nearly won it late, but Alisson Becker made a crucial save.
Brazil, coached by Carlo Ancelotti, remain unbeaten in World Cup openers since 1934. However, the performance raised concerns.
Ancelotti said the team looked nervous and needs improvement. Vinícius also admitted Brazil started poorly but must grow in the tournament.
