An Indian military transport aircraft crashed on Saturday while attempting to land at an air force station in the northeastern state of Assam.
According to the Indian Air Force, the Russian-made Antonov An-32 was involved in an accident while landing in Jorhat.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of people on board or reported any casualties.
The air force announced that a formal inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the crash.
Television footage from the scene showed thick black smoke rising from the wreckage, with the aircraft appearing to have broken into several pieces upon impact.
The An-32 is a twin-engine military transport aircraft designed to operate in high-altitude and extreme-weather conditions. The Indian Air Force uses around 100 of these aircraft for military logistics and humanitarian missions in remote mountainous regions.
The crash recalls a 2019 An-32 accident in Arunachal Pradesh, near the China border, in which 13 people lost their lives.
Rescue and investigation efforts are ongoing, and further details are expected as authorities assess the situation.
