A senior Russian military officer, identified as Col Damir Davydov, was killed in a car bomb explosion near Moscow on Tuesday morning, according to local media reports.
The blast reportedly occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the city of Balashikha, when an explosive device placed under a BMW detonated as the vehicle was near the officer’s home. Eyewitness footage circulating on Russian media showed the car engulfed in flames after the explosion.
Davydov, 57, was reportedly responsible for overseeing the Russian military’s artillery and missile depot supply operations, according to reports citing military sources.
Local Telegram channels said bystanders attempted to rescue him from the wreckage, but he died at the scene.
No official confirmation or statement has been issued by either Russian or Ukrainian authorities so far.
The incident comes amid a pattern of targeted attacks on Russian military personnel since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, with similar high-profile killings reported in recent years.
