Saif Ali Khan has shared that a piece of advice from Shah Rukh Khan during the filming of Kal Ho Naa Ho in 2003 significantly changed his approach to acting.

Recalling a conversation on set, Saif said Shah Rukh once asked him who he considered his first audience. When Saif replied that he acted for the camera, Shah Rukh suggested a different perspective, telling him that an actor should primarily perform for the director, who is the true storyteller guiding the film.

Saif said this simple insight reshaped how he understood his craft and continues to influence his work more than two decades later.

The actor also spoke about his upcoming film Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan and co-starring Akshay Kumar. He said he fully trusts the director’s vision and has been encouraged by Priyadarshan’s rare but positive feedback on his performance.

Reflecting on his career, Saif added that while he enjoys creating atmosphere and storytelling elements in daily life, he is not currently focused on moving behind the camera as a director. For now, he said, his priority remains acting and his upcoming projects.
