Islamabad court bars arrest of PTI leaders till July 23

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Thursday accepted 243 pre-arrest bail applications filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers and leaders in cases related to the November 26 protests and other demonstrations.

ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain heard the applications and directed police not to arrest the applicants until July 23.

Several PTI leaders and lawmakers appeared before the court, including MNAs Umair Niazi, Latif Khosa, Junaid Akbar, Arbab Sher Ali and Sajid Khan Mohmand, as well as Senator Falak Naz Chitrali.

Other party figures present included Khurram Sher Zaman, Raja Basharat, Rauf Hassan, Niazullah Niazi, former Azad Jammu and Kashmir prime minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi, Seemabia Tahir, Nadia Khattak and Major (retd) Tahir Sadiq.

The cases against the PTI leaders had been registered at various police stations in Islamabad, including Kohsar, Khana, Tarnol, Karachi Company and Secretariat police stations.
