Sources said the skipper has been deeply affected by criticism over the team’s recent performances and is likely to submit his resignation to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials after returning to Pakistan.

Shan Masood was appointed Pakistan’s Test captain in December 2023 but has faced increasing pressure due to inconsistent results in red-ball cricket. Under his captaincy, Pakistan have played 16 Test matches, winning only four and losing 12.

The latest setback came in Sylhet, where Pakistan suffered a 78-run defeat in the second Test while chasing a target of 437 runs. Despite resistance from Mohammad Rizwan, the visitors were bowled out for 358, allowing Bangladesh to complete a historic series whitewash.

The defeat further dented Pakistan’s position in the ICC World Test Championship standings and triggered fresh criticism over the team’s overall performance in Test cricket.
