He made these remarks while addressing a reception held in connection with “Australia Day in Spring 2026,” attended by political, social, and diplomatic personalities. The event began with the national anthems of Pakistan and Australia.

Speaking on the occasion, Kane said Australia valued Pakistan’s mediation efforts in the US-Iran dispute and acknowledged Islamabad’s constructive diplomatic engagement.

“Australia and Pakistan are both important middle powers in the Indo-Pacific region,” the envoy said.

He noted that both countries face common challenges, including climate change, water security, regional stability, and food security, and stressed the need for greater cooperation in these areas.

The Australian high commissioner also announced that Australia’s men’s cricket team would soon tour Pakistan for a three-match One-Day International series.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, who attended the event as chief guest, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy with Australia.

He said nearly 20,000 Pakistani students were currently studying in Australia and highlighted growing bilateral cooperation in trade, agriculture, environmental protection, and counterterrorism.

Gilani also welcomed the upcoming Australian cricket tour to Pakistan.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Australian high commissioner and chairman senate jointly cut a celebratory cake.
