President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the civil award during the Presidential Awards ceremony held in Islamabad on May 13, recognising Nawaz’s contributions to long-range shooting and his role in promoting Pakistan’s image internationally.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Nawaz described the recognition as a milestone not only for himself but for the entire shooting sports community in Pakistan. He thanked his parents, coaches, and supporters, while dedicating the award to young athletes competing in less-publicised sports.
Nawaz also acknowledged the role of the Pakistan Long Range Rifle Association and efforts to strengthen shooting sports infrastructure in the country, which helped Pakistani shooters gain international recognition through affiliations with global organisations.
Currently preparing for the 2026 F-Class World Championship in the United Kingdom, Nawaz has continued to advocate for reforms in the sports sector, including improved training facilities and easier access to specialised sporting equipment.
Widely regarded as Pakistan’s most accomplished F-Class shooter, Nawaz began his competitive career in 2004 at the Pakistan Ordnance Factory shooting club in Wah. Over the years, he pursued international competition through personal commitment, private sponsorships, and self-funded participation.
He currently holds 10 international individual medals in F-Class long-range shooting — the highest tally achieved by any Pakistani athlete in the discipline. His achievements include podium finishes in the United States, South Africa, and Europe, including the European Long Range Shooting Championship and the Imperial Championship.
In 2023, Nawaz equalled a European record during the European Long Range Shooting Championship, strengthening his reputation among elite long-range shooters worldwide.
At the national level, he has won multiple titles in PARA Army Championships, national long-range championships, and benchrest competitions, while also setting several national records.
Beyond competition, Nawaz has remained active in promoting shooting sports in Pakistan and currently serves as a brand ambassador for local and international shooting-related organisations.
