The incident occurred in the inter-provincial area between Jand tehsil in Punjab and Khushal Garh Bridge in KP.

According to security sources, the suspected Fitna al-Khawarij militant was moving through fields when a local resident, identified as Liaqat, stopped him and asked for identification.

During the confrontation, the attacker detonated explosives, martyring Liaqat on the spot while the suicide bomber was also killed in the blast.

Initial reports suggested the militant intended to target a sensitive checkpoint in the area, but Liaqat’s intervention prevented possible large-scale casualties and damage.

Liaqat, a resident of Mankor village in Attock district’s Jand tehsil, had retired from Pakistan Railways.

Security officials said his actions helped protect both civilians and security personnel present nearby.

Authorities noted that the incident highlighted continuing militant threats in border regions, where attacks targeting civilians and security forces have increased in recent years.

Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns over cross-border militancy originating from Afghan territory and has urged the Afghan Taliban administration to prevent militant groups from using its soil for attacks inside Pakistan.
