Russell Brand responds to resurfaced sexual assault allegations involving ex-wife Katy Perry

Russell Brand comments on renewed sexual assault allegations involving ex-wife Katy Perry

Russell Brand has responded to recent sexual assault allegations made against his ex-wife Katy Perry, offering remarks during an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show on Wednesday, April 23.

The comedian, who is currently facing separate rape and assault allegations in the UK, referenced claims made by actress Ruby Rose, who alleged an incident involving Perry that reportedly took place around 20 years ago.

Brand said he felt “a good deal of sympathy” regarding the situation, noting that he has not been in contact with Perry since their divorce in 2011, though he remains in touch with her family.

He added that he struggled to understand the nature of the accusation at first glance, before later acknowledging that the described act would constitute assault after it was clarified during the interview.

The allegations were first made public on April 12, when Rose claimed in a social media post that Perry assaulted her during a night out in Melbourne when they were younger.

According to Rose, the incident occurred while she was resting on a friend’s lap, when Perry allegedly engaged in inappropriate physical contact.

Perry has denied the allegations. Reports also indicate that an inquiry has been initiated by Australian authorities following the claims.
