President Pezeshkian says violations, threats and blockade are key barriers to negotiations

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Wednesday that while the Islamic Republic has consistently supported dialogue and agreements, repeated violations of commitments, naval blockades, and military threats from Washington remain the primary obstacles to meaningful negotiations.

Earlier, the New York Post reported that US President Donald Trump had suggested a second round of talks between the United States and Iran could take place as soon as Friday, indicating a possible opening for renewed diplomacy.

In a post on X, Pezeshkian reaffirmed Tehran’s willingness to engage diplomatically while criticising what he described as contradictory US actions.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has welcomed dialogue and agreement and continues to do so,” he wrote.

“Breach of commitments, blockade and threats are the main obstacles to genuine negotiations. The world sees your endless hypocritical rhetoric and contradiction between claims and actions,” he added.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Trump is seeking a “unified” response from Iran’s leadership regarding US proposals to end hostilities.

She also noted that Trump has not imposed a deadline for the ceasefire extension announced on Tuesday.
