Pakistan’s Freelancers Earn $856 Million in Nine Months, Marking 50% Growth

(Web Desk) – Pakistani freelancers have brought in $856 million in foreign exchange during the first nine months of the 2025-26 fiscal year. According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), this is a major jump from the $567 million earned during the same time last year, representing a 50% increase in earnings.

Industry experts say this growth is driven by a massive wave of new people entering the digital workforce. Currently, Pakistan has over 2.37 million freelancers, making it one of the largest hubs for online work in the world. Much of this success is credited to training programs provided by both the government and private organizations.

However, the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA) warned that persistent internet issues and power outages are holding the industry back. PAFLA Chairperson Ibrahim Amin noted that slow internet speeds make it hard for workers to hit deadlines, which can hurt their professional reputations. To fix this, the association is pushing for better high-speed internet, the introduction of 5G, and even satellite-based internet options to keep the digital economy growing.
