TEHRAN: Iran’s football federation has accused the United States of revoking its ticket allocation for upcoming World Cup matches, alleging that the decision will prevent Iranian supporters from attending games.
The federation said the move affects Iran’s group-stage fixtures scheduled in the US and has been taken amid strained political relations between the two countries.
Iran claimed that under FIFA rules, teams are entitled to a share of tickets for distribution to fans through official channels, but said its allocation has now been withdrawn.
Officials said the decision leaves the federation unable to provide tickets to supporters who had already begun making travel arrangements.
The Iranian football body described the move as “contrary to the spirit” of international sport and urged FIFA to ensure neutrality and equal treatment for all participating nations.
The complaint comes alongside broader concerns raised by Iran over visa delays and entry restrictions affecting members of its delegation.
Neither FIFA nor US organisers have issued an official response to the allegations so far.
Iran is scheduled to play its group-stage matches in Los Angeles and Seattle during the tournament.
