ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has approved the first phase of privatisation of three major electricity distribution companies as part of its ongoing reform programme, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The companies include Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO).
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was briefed in a review meeting that expressions of interest for the three distribution companies have already been issued in national and international media.
Officials said the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation has approved the transaction structure, and the government is now preparing roadshows to attract local and foreign investors.
The prime minister reiterated that privatisation of loss-making state-owned enterprises remains a key priority under broader economic reforms.
He directed authorities to ensure transparency at every stage of the process and to establish a strong regulatory framework after completion of the transactions.
The government said investor outreach will include sessions targeting potential buyers from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and China as part of efforts to expand participation in the process.
