Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has accused Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan of refusing to participate in post-match handshakes after their recent Test matches, describing the behaviour as unprofessional and disrespectful.
The comments follow a tense exchange between the two players during the second Test in Sylhet. The incident occurred when Rizwan raised concerns about movement near the sightscreen, leading to a brief argument with Litton before umpire Richard Kettleborough intervened.
Speaking at a media event in Bangladesh, Litton said he was disappointed by Rizwan’s actions after the matches.
According to Litton, players should shake hands and show mutual respect once a match ends, regardless of on-field disagreements or the result.
He claimed Rizwan did not join the customary post-match handshake after Bangladesh’s victory in the first Test and repeated the behaviour after the second match.
Litton argued that even if Rizwan had a personal issue with him, avoiding the handshake was unfair to the rest of the Bangladesh team.
Despite the criticism, Litton acknowledged Rizwan’s value to the Pakistan side and described him, along with Babar Azam, as one of Pakistan’s most influential batters.
He also revealed that Bangladesh had developed specific plans to counter Rizwan during the series because of his strong record against their team.
Referring to the on-field confrontation, Litton noted that Rizwan’s slow routine between deliveries and the difficult playing conditions contributed to his frustration during the match.
Neither Rizwan nor the Pakistan Cricket Board had publicly responded to the allegations at the time of the remarks.
